One of the cornerstones of the Fraternity Communications Association is education. The Association offers several opportunities for members to gain valuable programming and education that will enhance their ability to be strong communicators for their organizations. The Annual Conference, Midyear Conference and monthly Brown Bag meetings are three events that feature communication experts who impart wisdom and expertise on to FCA members. Below are materials that were collected during programming sessions at FCA events.
MIDYEAR CONFERENCE – November 15, 2014The FCA Midyear Conference is a one-day conference hosted in Indianapolis in November. The conference provides a variety of general sessions and break-out sessions.
Getting the Most out of an Agency Relationship
Presenters: Julianna Butler, Former Communications Agency Executive; Liz Appel Rinck, Director of Communications/Editor, Kappa Alpha Theta
About the Presenter: Julianne Butler has been in non-profit marketing for nearly 25 years serving as associate director of admissions at Franklin College from 1988-1998 and as senior account executive for RHB (a marketing consultancy firm) from 1998-2013. At RHB, she worked with colleges and universities, as well as a number of Greek-letter organizations. She managed the day-to-day details of projects for her clients with the goal of providing outstanding service and strategic, creative solutions to their marketing efforts. She is a member of Delta Delta Delta Fraternity.
To assist Julianne with her session, she recruited Liz Appel Rinck, the Director of Communications at Kappa Alpha Theta Headquarters in Indianapolis. In nearly 19 years at Kappa Alpha Theta, Liz has coordinated a variety of marketing and PR campaigns, including several with Julianne and the agency she used to work for, RHB. This summer, Theta launched a successful rebranding campaign that includes a new tag line: Leading Women.
Session Description: In your role, you are asked to move mountains with a staff of one or two and a sturdy shovel (the lucky Departments may have access to an old bull dozer), either way, the task is huge. We’ll discuss the benefits and drawbacks of working with a communications or marketing agency – whether it is a ‘do everything’ agency or the new start-up in town, knowing how to navigate and get the most out of the relationship is key to getting the job done…and for the times it's just you and a freelancer, we'll talk about getting the most out of the relationship as well.

Video Storytelling: Game Changing
Presenters: Jon DiGregory, Cantaloupe Founder & Evangelist; Vicki Duncan Gardner, Cantaloupe Director of Story Development
About the Presenters: After graduating from Indiana University with a degree in Journalism, Jon DiGregory began a marketing career by joining the traditional advertising agency world exposing him to the art of computer design and animation. Discovering that the power of “telling a good story” was a successful component of his client’s marketing strategy; Jon started MediaSauce - the first multimedia marketing company in Indianapolis that dedicated itself solely to the building and delivering of online content for the web. This move transitioned Jon away from the comfortable “print” world into the widely unproven arena of online marketing.
Ten years later, seeing the need for his clients to communicate with their online audience in more of an inexpensive, ongoing and authentic conversation lead Jon to the creation of Cantaloupe, Llc: An authentic video storytelling company that creates Video Storybooks for their clients by matching the right emotional connections to the right audience at the right time based on where they are in their sales cycle.
Vicki Duncan Gardner serves as the Director of Story Development at Cantaloupe.
Prior to Cantaloupe, Vicki spent her time in the media industry where she served as a reporter and press secretary. Vicki graduated from DePauw University.
Session Description: B2B marketers often produce online video programming that comes off like a novel, in which people view a video once (maybe twice) and cast it aside. To make a more lasting impression on your customers and prospects, Cantaloupe knows how to enable sales and marketers to cast regular series of online videos targeting different stages of the purchasing process.
Join Cantaloupe Founder, Jon DiGregory for an interactive session on how to strategically leverage the emotional connections created by video storytelling. Just as all other forms of marketing, video without a plan behind it will fail. However, when done correctly, video can be used to solve problem areas in your sales and marketing.
What you will learn?
-How to use video storytelling to create emotional connections
-How to use video to drive awareness to the four stages of your sales cycle
-How to effectively plan, produce and present online video
